We are two lifelong friends each of whom have had experiences that led us together to embrace this work. We both come from interesting refugee ‘backstories’, immigrant parents fleeing hostile countries and holding on to whatever they could to remain connected to their roots; rich stories of interesting lives lived, changed and all of the things that go along with this.
Collectively we’ve moved/downsized our own families six times, each time needing to consider feelings, time, family members, money and space. Eventually extended family, friends and colleagues started asking us to do this work for them and a business was born.
We always say that ‘things are not just things’, things represent our feelings of our pasts, our present and our future. But we also know from experience that these same items can be truly burdensome, taking up precious room, expensive to keep, and not of interest to family members - simply weighing us down. We find that paring down can be freeing, uplifting, helpful to families, make for more comfortable spaces, contribute to society, and often financially helpful. Needless to say, this is also often necessary as we prepare for life change - moves, downsizing, new family additions and more.
These experiences combined with our own lives, both professional and personal, have led us to create My Feathered Hat - an empathetic, service driven, efficient and effective offering for those in the midst of change. Simply said, we really get it.

In her previous life, Kathy was a content executive for top media companies and brands, including Meredith, Hearst, Advance Media (Conde Nast) and News Corp. She was editor in chief of several magazines including Mode, Access TV, NYU Alumni Magazine and held top posts at Elle, Harpers’ Bazaar and others.
